polygamists must fulfil obligations to wives
Ekumfi
Otuam (Central Region) 04 August 2000
The
Central Regional President of Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Nana Mohammed Ogyefo
has exhorted Muslims, who practise polygamy, to ensure that they fulfil their
obligations to their wives and children.
"We
should not marry more wives just because our religion permits polygamy, when we
know we cannot adequately maintain our wives and children."
Nana
Ogyefo was addressing the annual conference of Ekwumfi Otuam circuit of the
Mission at Otuam on Sunday.
The
theme of the conference was "Integrity: a key component in religion".
He urged them to let people see the beauty of the religion in the way they
live.
"We
cannot be good Muslims when we shirk our responsibilities to our wives,
children and the community."
Nana
Ogyefo urged them to give their children especially, their daughters, good
secular education to enable them to play effective roles in national
development.
The
Principal of Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Training College, Maulvi Yusif Yawson,
urged members of the religion to take advantage of conferences and programmes
organised to learn more about the religion.
Maulvi
Yawson said Islam is a peaceful religion and urged members to conduct their
activities as such.
