NAFTI Alumni reject government nomination to Board

Accra (Greater Accra) 17 December 2001 - Anger and rejection is brewing among alumni of the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) following the appointment of Mr Thyron Adosu who is to represent them on the board of the Institute.

The GNA reports a group of NAFTI alumni and students as saying that Mr Adosu, popularly known as "TT" has never been a NAFTI student and had no reason whatsoever to represent them on the board.

"We therefore wish to let the government know this and also to ask Mr Jake Obestebi-Lamptey, Minister of Information and Presidential Affairs to withdraw his name from the list."

The alumni held a meeting last Friday to deliberate over the matter. They said they were going to petition the government on the issue. "We are currently collecting signatures concerning the matter and hope that the government is quick to act on the matter," adding that, "if the government insist on having him on the board, he can come representing a different body, otherwise we will resist him fiercely."

The Government announced members for the Board of NAFTI and the Ghana nstitute of Journalism last week and charged them to work hard to lift the image of the country.
