Inadequate
information is our worry - Tetteh
Accra (Greater Accra)
10 December 2002 - Coach Silas Tetteh, head coach of the National Under-17, the
Black Starlets on Monday said lack information on their Kenyan opponents, who
they will meet in two weeks time, is the only problem confronting his team.
Speaking to the GNA
Sports in interview, coach Tetteh said they have little information on their
opponents and there are no video clips on them to help his technical team in
its preparations.
According to coach
Tetteh, the only information they have on their opponents is their physique as
well as the hash weather conditions prevailing in Kenya. He said in spite of
all these, his boys are capable of surmounting the task ahead since they have
prepared well for the qualifiers.
The Coach said
preparations of the team have been quite good because the team has performed
creditably in all the friendly matches played so far.
He said, the team has
so far scored an average goal of four in each match and this shows that the
attack has a bite and indicated that more friendly matches would be organized
for the team before they face the Kenyans and expressed the hope of the team's
qualification to the Africa Under-17 tournament to be staged in Swaziland next
year.
The Starlets are
scheduled to play Kenya in the first leg of the qualifiers for the Africa
Under-17 Tournament on December 21. The return leg would come up on January 11
2003 in Ghana.

Accra (Greater Accra)
10 December 2002 - Accra Great Olympics are sad about the inability of Kumasi
Asante Kotoko to win the African Cup Winners' Cup.
Richard Oblitei
Solomon, chairman of the club said the result of the match was a major blow to
the Ghanaian game and the premier league in particular as it would have
received a great turnaround in terms of patronage and spectatorship if Kotoko
had won.
He said the Ghalca
Top Four Tournament which is next on the soccer calendar would have been turned
into a soccer carnival by the thousands of Kotoko supporters, their
sympathisers and admirers and the effect would have spilled over to the league
next season and all clubs would have benefited from it.
Solomon said though
it is lamentable that the cup had slipped through the hands of the Porcupine
Warriors they must feel honoured to have played in the finals which in itself,
is a great achievement that underscores the greatness of Kotoko in Africa.
The Olympics chairman
advised the rank and file of the management, players and supporters of Kotoko
not to be downhearted but to re-strategise and launch a more determined
campaign to win the cup, adding that "there will always be the opportunity
in the future to capture the ultimate in African football."
Solomon advised
soccer administrators and indeed all football lovers to support any club that
represents the country in an international competition to succeed because such
triumphs would fortify the league and all clubs would derive immense benefits
from a highly rated competition.
He said despite the
result the contribution of Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak to the development of
Ghana football cannot be ignored. The Olympics chairman congratulated the
Porcupine Warriors for their brave challenge even in defeat and wished them a
better luck in their next international competition.

Satellites beat Vipers in a friendly
Cape Coast (Central
Region) 10 December 2002 - The Ghana Black Satellites, beat Cape Coast Venomous
Vipers 2-0 in a friendly match played at the Cape Coast sports stadium on Monday.
The match formed part
of warm up matches for the satellites who are undergoing intensive training at
the Winneba sports college in preparation for the African Youth tournament
scheduled to take place in Burkina Faso early next year.
Even though Vipers
lost, they were not humiliated as they matched their opponents squarely in the
first half. Kicking off under the instruction of Cape Coast based class one
referee Joshua Mensah, Vipers attacked first and carried the game into their
opponents' half for most of the time, but the able defence of the Satellites
foiled their attempts to find the net.
The Satellites took
control of affairs in the 25th minute and with their forwards made up of
Abubakar Alhassan, Awudu Samadu, William Thompson and Michael Ocansey combining
beautifully, they brought persistent pressure on Vipers and scored the match
opener in the 33rd minute when inside left Alhassan collected a pass
from Quartey to score.
On resumption, Vipers
made three substitutions, which rather weakened their midfield and allowed
their opponents to penetrate their defence with ease. It therefore came as no
surprise when inside left Samadu, was put through by centre half Quartey, to
increase the tally to 2-0 in the 66th minute.
Vipers made frantic
efforts to get a consolation goal, but try as they did, they could not break
through the ironclad defence of the Satellites.
