More to apply for Black Stars job

Accra (Greater Accra) 27 December 2002 - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Tuesday said it is inviting more applications from local and foreign coaches to fill the vacancy created by the departure of Yugoslav Milan Zivadinovic.

A statement issued in Accra by Kofi Nsiah, General Secretary of the GFA, said the deadline is 15 January 2003. It said at its full house management board meeting held last Tuesday, the GFA agreed that “nothing dramatic” has happened to change the fortunes of the Black Stars since the unexpected vacation of post of Zivadinovic last September.

“With this in view, members of the management board have decided unanimously to invite more applications from both local and foreign coaches for the vacant post created by (the departure of) Milan Zivadinovic.

“The association believes that the appointment of an efficient and experienced substantive national coach, who will command respect among the players and instil discipline into the team is in line with its avowed aim of ensuring that Ghana football attains respectable international standards, thereby bringing back the smiles on the faces of lovers of the beautiful game of ours,” the statement said.

The statement said the GFA would make the necessary recommendations to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for further action. The GFA named coach E.K. Afranie to handle the senior national team the Black Stars, after the sudden departure of Zivadinovic last September.
