Human blood seekers before court
The Daily Graphic reports in a front-page human-interest story that three men who allegedly sought the assistance of a mortuary attendant at the Margaret Marquart Hospital at Kpando in the Volta Region, for the supply of human blood, have appeared before a Kpando Circuit Court.
The story says that the blood was to be used for a ritual to strengthen the efficacy of some ‘juju’ a medicine man had prepared for them to secure jobs.
The Graphic says that the suspects specifically, wanted either the blood of a murdered person, someone who had committed suicide or a person who died through a motor accident.
The three, named as Kwasi Amexo, 21, from Sovie Eric Attah Kumah, 19, from Kpando-Konda and Attah Ntsi, 34, from Kpando-Demeve, were remanded in prison custody until February 23.
Their pleas were not taken. According to the prosecution, Amexo and Kumah on February 13 approached the mortuary attendant for human blood and stating their preference.
They told the attendant the were to use the blood for purification rites so that a juju made for them by Ntsi, the third suspect, could become very strong and enable them to get employment.
The mortuary attendant is said to have feigned interest and fixed the following day, February 14, for them to come for the final negotiation on the deal.
Meanwhile the attendant had alerted the police about the deal and on the appointed day, Amexo and Kumah called as arranged. While in the process of finalising the deal, the police swooped on them and arrested them. Ntsi was also nabbed later, the Graphic reports the prosecutor as telling the court.

Apaloo’s court was going to rule in favour of a group of minority shareholders calling for an extraordinary general meeting, in a case involving AGC, it hurriedly held a press conference the day after the ruling – February 10, 2000 – and read a February 9 dated statement chastising the AGC board and claiming that Ashanti’s relationship with Lonmin would create a conflict of interest.
The Crusading Guide says that according to the statement, which was jointly read by the Minister of Communications, Mr John Mahama and the Minister of Mines and Energy, Dr John Abu, "Lonmin has a management agreement with AGC under which Dr Sam Jonah, a director of Lonmin is seconded as chief executive officer to AGC and obtains his salary benefits from Lonmin…"
