Minority to sponsor motion

 

Accra (Greater Accra) 01 February 2003- The NDC Minority would move on Thursday, for a debate in Parliament on the increase of petroleum prices announced by the government in 17 January.

 

The motion is to seek the approval of Parliament to investigate the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to ascertain matters such as whether the allegations of corruption, fraud, inefficiency and mismanagement levelled against the company by President J.A. Kufuor were true.

 

“The true state of indebtedness of TOR and whether the very high increase in prices of petroleum products recently announced by the government were realistic. The motion is standing in the names of Alban Bagbin, Minority Leader, Edward Doe Adjaho, Minority Chief Whip, Abraham Kofi Asante, Moses Asaga, Spokesmen on Energy and Finance respectively and Alhaji Ali Amadu, MP for Atebubu South.

 

Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, announced this when he presented the Business Statement for the third week-ending 17 February 2003. He said during the week, Ministers of Food and Agriculture, Communications and Technology, Interior, Energy and Roads and Transport are expected to answer 17 questions.

 

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development would answer a question by Michael Teye Nyaunu (Lower Manya Krobo) whether the ministry has plans to create a new Dangme Central District with Akuse as its capital,

 

Joseph Darko-Mensah (Okai Koi North) would also ask the Minister of Lands and Forestry, about plans to stop the encroachment on the Achimota lands. The Financial Administration Bill would be taken through the first reading during the week.
