Mighty Jets wins case against Olympiakos

Accra (Greater Accra) 23 January 2003 - A.C. Olympiakos, suffered the second setback within a week after losing their match last Sunday, when they again lost a case brought against them by Tudu Mighty Jets at the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for fielding an unqualified player when two teams met in the opening match of the season.

By committee's decision, which found Ade Coker's team guilty on the grounds of negligence, Olympiakos are to lose the said match by three points and three goals and further forfeit three points from their accumulated points build-up.

The Committee also fined Olympiakos half a million cedis whiles Najeeb Sinare the player at the centre of the impasse has been banned for 12 calendar months for deceiving. Olympiakos won the match against Mighty Jets 3 -1 after coming back from an early goal setback.

The decision sends Ade Coker's boys reeling from a shock 2-1 defeat to Real Sportive to the bottom of Zone 3A table on negative three points with a game in hand against Afienya United.

According to the Committee, Olympiakos were found guilty on the grounds of negligence since they did not verify the status Sinare who was then a player of Wonder Boys, a division two team before fielding him.

According to the Julius Onyameama , Secretary of the Committee, the claim by Olympiakos that they went to Accra New Town to check the status of the player before registering him could not be accepted. He said this is because the best place for any club to obtain the status of the player is at the FA.

Onyameama said the crust of the matter was that Olympiakos were negligent and failed to check the eligibility of the player. "What made matter worse for Olympiakos was that Might Jets protested before the match started hence the player's name could have easily been taken out of the list and verified.

"Rather they choose not to play it safe and allowed Sinare to play and are therefore suffering for the risk they took". Onyameama said fielding an unqualified player contravenes article 33 of the GFA regulations where the penalty is very clear.

Meanwhile the Committee at the same sitting declared All Blacks losers after failing to show up in their match against Cape Coast Dwarfs at the Gyandu Park. The Committee in arriving at the decision said even though All Blacks had earlier sent a message to the effect that the vehicle conveying the team and broken down as at 11 am this could not prevent them from reporting to the match venue at 5 pm.

The Committee said All Blacks had ample time at their disposal between the time that the vehicle broke down and starting time of the match at 3 pm to report. The Committee  fined Stephen Attipoe of Ho Voradep ¢500,000 for striping his pants after scoring the two goals for his club in their match against Volta Warriors, which they won 2-1.

Adansiman appeal for financial support

Obuasi (Ashanti Region) 23 January 2003 - Former premier division campaigners, Obuasi Adansiman F/C, have initiated move to raise adequate funds to support the club's quest to re-gain entry into the premiership.

Adansiman who went into soccer wilderness for several years, bounced back into the elite division last year but were relegated at the end of that season. "So far we have won the first three matches but our main problem is financial. And since we have to clear about 17 matches en-route to the premier division and against the background that all the matches are being played away from home, there is the need for us to look else where for funding", Kofi Barimah-Acheampong, the Club's Secretary told the GNA Sports in an interview.

According to him, the club needs money to mobilise and motivate players to give off their best. Barimah-Acheampong said they have appealed to all Adansis, both at home and abroad adding that the club is waiting for responses.

The secretary said the Adansi West District Assembly had been contacted and the District Chief Executive, Joe Boampong, had promised to assist the club. "We are praying that the promise is fulfilled immediately since this is the time we need money badly", he said, stressing that "our determination to qualify for the sub-middle, middle leagues and the premiership is solid".

On his part, Alhaji Ibrahim Tahiru (Boho), Chairman of the Club, commended Obuasi Goldfields Sporting Club for throwing their weight behind the club. He expressed his appreciation to the Adansiman supporters for travelling with the club in all the matches played so far and urged them to continue.

Alhaji Boho, however, advised the supporters to comport themselves during matches, even in the face of bias officiating so that matches involving Adansiman would be violence-free.

BRM hit back and following a series of attack, a hard-pressed defender handled the ball in the penalty area. Tarkwa-based class one referee R.T. Koosom, whistled for a spot kick, which was converted by Alex Armah in 70th minute.

The referee in the 76th minute awarded a second penalty against All Blacks but the team protested vehemently and as a result, the match was help up for some minutes.
