Copy Right Society should be probed - Buari
Accra (Greater Accra) 08 June 2002- Alhaji Sidiku Buari, Acting Board Chairman of Copyright Society of Ghana (COSGA) on Thursday reiterated that the society still stands by its call for a probe into the operations of the society during the tenure of its previous administration, which ended in November last year.
He said current Board of COSGA inherited a debt of 700 million cedis and that it would be better for accountability and transparency to be visible in the society.
Alhaji Buari made the point when members of the society, officers of the Copyright Administration and the Ghana Association of Phonogram Industry who are responsible for the Gamugram System interacted with senior journalists to explain to them the need to make the Copyright Law operational.
He said creative works including those of musicians should be protected and appealed to the media to help promote the work of the Copyright Administrator.
Mr Bernard K. Bosumprah, Copyright Administrator said to help the copyright office to effectively fight piracy, three national anti-piracy committee had been formed for identifiable industries which produce literary works, software music and audiovisual, adding that the Gamugram was intended for musical works only.
He expressed regret that inadequate funding and the lack of logistics were hampering the copyright office. Mr Bosumprah said he had submitted a Copyright Bill to Parliament, which sought to enhance the operations and the enforcement of copyright laws in the country.
