Sekondi (Western Region) 08 May 2002 - The Western Region Multi-sector Committee on Child Protection has expressed concern about the screening of adult films to children in video houses. Mr John Hackman, Secretary of the Committee, said some video houses show these films to children in the afternoon and children ran away from school to watch them.
He noted that children sometimes borrow adult video films and watch them in their homes and advised parents to censure the films watched by their children on television and on video as these could influence their behaviour.
Mr Hackman said one of the first tasks of the committee was to tackle this menace in the region. ''It is the view of the committee that laws on cinematography that prohibit children from watching certain types of films be rigidly enforced''. This, he said, would help stem the increasing spate of hooliganism and violent behaviour in schools.
