Kumasi (Ashanti Region) 19 November 2001-At the Kumasi Sports Stadium King Faisal brightened their chances of staying in the Premier league with a 2-1 win over visiting Okwahu United in their match.
King Faisal found the opener through a penalty in the 18th minute when George Tutu pulled Issa Debrah down in the penalty box for Joe Agyemang to score from the resultant kick.
The homesters who were slightly ahead increased the tempo of the game and put Okwahu under pressure resulting in their second goal in the 28th minute. Issah Debrah raced with the ball to the right and with the Okwahu defence hot on his heels, he gave an intelligent cross to Frank Osei who rose and powerfully headed past goalkeeper Samuel Quansah.
Issah Debrah who enjoyed a good afternoon, fired a close range shot at goal in the 31st minute but goalkeeper Quansah punched it to corner which was wasted. Quansah again pulled another spectacular save on the stroke of half time from another shot from Debrah.
On resumption, Okwahu redoubled their efforts and were rewarded in the 47th minute when Mathew Konadu, drove a fierce shot into the roof of the net. Goalkeeper Quansah who really had a remarkable afternoon, relying on his reflexes, saved a close range shot again in the 82nd minute from Kwabena Opoku to keep the scoreline down.

Koforidua (Easter Region) Suhum Maxbees managed to beat visiting Obuasi Goldfields by a lone goal in their match played at the Koforidua Sports Stadium.
The goal was scored on the 68th minute by striker Anthony Appiah, who connected a pass from Asamoah Dzifa to the blind side of the Goldfields goalkeeper, Rashid Campaore.
Maxbees, very much aware of their precarious position on the league table, began the match with determination but failed to utilise the numerous chances that came their way during the first half.
However, in the second half, the Suhum boys continued their onslaught and put incessant pressure on Goldfields till the 68th minutes, when Appiah found the net.
The tide changed in favour of Goldfields at the latter stages of the game but their efforts at goal were thwarted by the Maxbees defenders pivoted Samuel Oboubi and Ben Adjei who managed to block their incursions.

Accra (Greater Accra) 19 November 2001 - A 65th minute controversial penalty goal scored by David Lakortey gave Accra Great Olympics the maximum points in their match against Tema Ghapoha played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Referee E.Y. Adegah from Keta awarded the spot kick when the ball hit the hand of Dennis Odoom, an Olympics attacker in a tense goalmouth action. Earlier in the game, Ghapoha were reduced to 10 men when Samuel Hanson, their top marksman was shown the red card for a crunchy tackle on an opponent.
Olympics had missed two golden opportunities to go into the lead in the 15th and 18th minutes but resolute defending by the visitors ensured the ball was cleared on the line on both occasions.
At the other end, Amui Quaye, a former Olympics player tucked the ball into the net in the 20th minute but the referee adjudged him to be in an offside position.
In all, it was a very competitive match with both sides playing to their limits in a bid coast clear of the relegation zone. Olympics now move to 35 points on the table while Ghapoha remain on 32 still threatened by a drop as Maxbees and King Faisal registered victories at the weekend.

Obuasi (Ashanti Region) 19 November 2001 - Adansiman played a determined game to beat visiting Kwaebibirem United 2-1 in their match played at the Len Clay stadium.
Adansiman shot into the lead in the 44th minute through Kwaku Agyeman who slotted the ball home after collecting a pass from skipper Hope Leveh.
Kwabibirem resumed the second half bringing on Sulemana Bentil for Isaac Agyekum but it was still Adansiman who maintained their supremacy. They, however, wasted two quick corner kicks in the 46th and 47th minutes.
One of the kicks floated in by Hope Leveh created a good chance for Osei Kofi but he threw it away when he had a yawning net before him. In the 69th minute, Kwaebibirem snatched the equaliser when Elvis Opoku, who was a torn in the flesh of the homesters, capitalised on a defensive blunder caused by Daniel Asamoah to beat keeper Samuel Antwi.
In the 84th minute however, Hope Leveh restored Adansiman's lead when he drove a thunderbolt from a free-kick few metres away from the opponents' area into the net, sending the fans mad with joy.

Accra (Greater Accra) 19 November 2001- Mr. Abdul Kadri Ibrahim the board secretary of Real Tamale United has stated that his team is not under any threat of relegation despite their present position on the standings.
Speaking to GNA Sports in an interview after the Liberty-RTU League match at the Accra Sports Stadium, Mr. Ibrahim said the rest of their matches would be played at their favourite Kaladan Park in Tamale and they would ensure they win them to remain in the Star Premier League next year.
The secretary, however, attributed RTU's dismal performance this year to frustration from match officials, adding "this year league has seen the worst officiating and this has had a negative impact on the morale of my players."
Mr.Kadri Ibrahim said due to the long distance his team has to travel to honour away matches, most of the players get tired before they get to their destination hence their poor performance in most of their away matches.
In the match itself, RTU were humiliated by a 1-3 defeat by Liberty in what can spell doom for the Northerners.
