07 November 2002- The Pan African Historical Theatre Festival (PANAFEST)
Foundation has agreed to a suggestion by the Ministry of Tourism that the
Foundation organises
both PANAFEST and Emancipation Day programmes with effect from next year.
A statement issued in
Accra by PANAFEST said the Foundation has also agreed to admit on its
International Board representatives of the Ministry of Tourism in ex-officio
capacity.
The statement said the
agreements were reached at a meeting held on 14 October between officials of
the Ministry of Tourism led by the Deputy Minister, Nana Akomea and a PANAFEST
Foundation delegation led by its chairman, Kojo Yankah.
It said the Omanhene
of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II was present at the meeting. The
statement said the meeting was officially informed that PANAFEST and
Emancipation Day 2003 would be held in Elmina, Cape Coast, Accra and Kumasi
from 27 July to 5 August 2003.
A pre-PANAFEST
Pilgrimage to begin from Salaga through the Slave Route to Elmina would be
organised from 23-26 July.
It said in
collaboration with the National Commission on Culture and the African
Highlights Organisation, a three-day conference of African Traditional Leaders
would be held in Kumasi from 2-5 August to round off PANAFEST and Emancipation
Day 2003. Traditional leaders from Africa and the Diaspora are being invited to
attend.
The Theme for the
conference is "African Traditional Leaders - Partners in the Development
of Africa and in the Realisation of the Goals of the African Union."
