Kotoko
through to semis of Mylik Tournament
Accra (Greater Accra)
25 November 2002 - Kumasi Asante Kotoko sailed to the semi final stage of the
Mylik Classic Under 19 soccer tournament when they beat Intermillas 2-0 in a
Group A match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.
The Porcupine Warriors
who had earlier beaten F/C Midjtlland by a lone goal on the opening day of the
competition scored the first goal on four minutes through Yaw Sarpong.
Intermillas fought
back and came close on many occasions but Eric Nii Baah in goal for Kotoko
would not give in as he made a couple of great saves to deny the Intermillas
lads. Kotoko defended well in the second half as Fuseni Mumuni, Domonic Kusu and
Yahaya Seidu halted all the forays of Intermillas, spearheaded by Muniru Ataa
Yahaya.
The Kumasi chaps took
over proceedings again ten minutes into the second half and subjected
Intermillas to incessant pressure which yielded dividends in the 59th
minute when Edmund Owusu Peprah scored to cushion their lead. And with the
defeat of Feyenoord in the second match by F/C Midtjilland the Porcupine
Warriors became the first team to go through to the next round of the
Competition.
Coach Sam Arday's boys
who played a delightful game lost to the bigger and more physical Maamobi Danes
by 3-2. Richard Asare scored first for Midtjilland on five minutes and centre forward
Iddi Yekini equalized four minutes later when he took advantage of a defensive
laxity from the Midtjilland rear line.
Benard Asare scored a
brace for Midtjilland in the 27th and 66th minutes before
the petite lads from Gomoa Fetteh got out of their slumber once more and
carried the game to their opponents. Noel Nyasugbor combined well with Isaac
Bortey and Jordan Opoku as they drew rings around the "Maamobi Danes"
but over elaboration prevented them from scoring.
With three minutes
remaining, nimble footed Mohammed Abubakar reduced the tally when he jabbed in
from a crunchy goalmouth action. Feyenoord had the last chance of the match to
even scores but Isaac Bortey fired wide from three metres.

Division
one clubs to start registration
Accra (Greater Accra)
25 November 2002 - Registration of division one clubs in anticipation of the
commencement of the embattled league begins in earnest on Monday, 25 November. Although
no date has been officially fix for the league, officials say it would
kick-start before the end of the year.
Douglas Djarbeng,
Chairman of the Division One League Board, told the GNA Sports in Accra that
the registration takes place at the DOL office at the Ghana Football
Association (GFA) secretariat.
When asked if Tudu
Mighty Jets, who are in a legal tussle with the GFA could register, he answered
in the affirmative. He said Jets have the right to register as a division one
club but DOL is yet to decide on whether they (Jets) could participate in the
league.
Djarbeng said the DOL
was working around the clock to ensure the league commences before the end of
the December.
The division one
league has been on hold for months now because of a appending court case
involving Tudu Mighty Jets and the GFA. GFA handed a three-year ban on the Tudu
club for intentionally pulling out of last year's middle league. Jets resorted
to court action because it said the GFA failed to give them a hearing before
imposing the ban.
