disciplined - I.C. Quaye tells Hearts players

27 November 2002 - Sheikh Ibrahim Cudjoe Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister,
has advised players of league champions, Accra Hearts of Oak, to be disciplined
and dedicated in order to be successful in their career.
Quaye said they should
not be taken away by the praises of their numerous supporters to become
indisciplined but they should instead remain committed and follow instructions
of their technical men, management members and all officials of the club to
ensure more success. "You must ignore comments by supporters when on the
field of play especially when the going is tough so that you remain focused to
overcome your difficulties".
The Regional Minster
gave the advise when officials and players of Accra Hearts of Oak called
on him to present him with trophies they have won this year in recognition of his role as the man in charge
of the Greater Accra Region.
Quaye said they could
only win more laurels for themselves, the team and the nation if they remained
disciplined and committed to their work adding that football is now a full-time
business and must be taken seriously. He also urged the management of the team
to develop ways of moving the club forward to ensure national development.
Tommy Okine Chief
Executive of Accra Hearts of Oak assured the minister of the team’s
determination to make amend in next years African Clubs Championship. He
pledged that the clubs was going to do everything possible to win the Champions
League for the second time and also defend the league trophy for the seventh
time.
The trophies presented
to the minister were, the King Tackie Tawiah cup, the GHALCA Top Four trophy as
well as the Premier League trophy, all of which were picked in the 2002 soccer
season.

holds an emergency congress

27 November 2002 - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) would on December 12,
hold an emergency congress to discuss issues affecting the development of the
game in Ghana.
According to Kwaku
Ampim-Darko Deputy General Secretary of the GFA, the emergency congress would
deliberate on the court case involving the FA and division one league
campaigners, Tudu Mighty Jets. The congress would also discuss the division one
league among other burning issues.

27 November 2002 - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Tuesday sent a
message of congratulations to Dr Sam Jonah, Chief Executive of Ashanti Goldfields,
following his knighting by the Her Royal Majesty, the Queen of England and Head
of the Commonwealth.
A release signed by
Kofi Nsiah the General Secretary of the GFA and copied to GNA Sports, expressed
full admiration of the enviable high honour to be conferred on him by the Queen
of England adding that his hard work, dedicated service and his strive for
excellence have distinguished and placed him among the highly honored men in
the world.
"As a sportsman
and a football fan, you are the brain behind the establishment of the first
professional football club in this country-Obuasi Goldfields Sporting Club and
greatly helped to develop and promote Ghana football."
It said the honour
conferred on Dr Jonah came to them as no surprise but an appreciation of his
real value. The General Secretary said Dr. Jonah has greatly helped to develop
and promote football in the country as well as leading Ashanti Goldfields from
Strength to strength.
