Debate on a 55 million dollar loan begins on Tuesday

 

Accra (Greater Accra) 30 November 2002- Parliament would on Tuesday debate the 55 million dollar loan agreement between the Government and Barclays Bank Ghana Limited for the procurement of equipment to the Ghana Armed Forces.

 

The loan, when approved would enhance the logistical requirement of the Ghana Armed Forces United Nations Peace Keeping Operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MUNOC), Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) and in South Lebanon (UNIFIL).

 

The House would also debate the 12.8 Euro loan Agreement between Ghana Government and the German Bank for Reconstruction (KfW) to support the rehabilitation of the Sogakope-Akatsi Road.

 

Mr Abraham Ossei Aidooh, Deputy Majority Leader said these when he presented the Business Statement for the eight week ending 06 December 2002.

 

He said during the week, the Committee of the Whole (All members) would discuss the 2002 proposed formula for sharing of the District Assemblies' Common Fund.

 

Mr. Ossei Aidooh said the Ministers of Education, Works and Housing and Roads and Transport have been scheduled to answer 15 questions in the course of the week.

 

He said reports on the Juvenile Justice Bill, College of Physicians and Surgeons Bill and the United Nations Human Rights Convention on Women and Children would be laid.

 

Mr Ossei Aidoo said no businees has been programmed for Thursday and Friday because the festival of Ramadan (Eid Al Fitr) was likely to fall on Thursday 05 December 2002 and it was expected to be observed as a Public Holiday, while the first Friday of December has been observed as National Farmers' Day and as a statutory Holiday
